The history of vaping

Part I, Hot stones and hookahs.

Vaping is often seen as a completely new way of enjoying cannabis products. And with so many futuristic looking devices, it is easy to think that it is. With all their settings and features, modern vaporizers look as if they are from a science-fiction movie. However, vaping has been around for a bit longer than a lot of people know. The custom has its roots in north Africa, thousands of years ago. Sources from that period speak of tribes who use heated stones to heat up plants or seeds and inhale their vapors. Since tobacco only came to the old world after the discovery of the Americas, we have to guess what they were smoking

In the centuries that followed all kinds of different devices were used to vaporize herbs and leaves. The modern hookah for example has its roots in India. Or the traditional peace pipe of the native Americans. Different cultures found that vaporizing instead of burning gave the most clean inhalation with the least side effects.

It would still take many years to get to the modern, portable vaporizers like our Wiz Hybrid. But more on that in part II.
